DAMLAG was founded in 2009 around the launch of our flagship product, elCinema.com, the first Arabic-language movie database, built to be the Arabic Movie Database the internet never had.

Our founders came from web and technology backgrounds, united by a passion for movies and moviemaking, fitting for a country that was among the first in the world to embrace cinema, back in the 1920s. elCinema.com wasn't built to turn a profit; it was built to fix a gap we felt ourselves as film-loving internet users. Once it went live, it was clear how badly the Arabic-speaking world needed it. DAMLAG has been closing gaps in the region's movie-industry technology ever since, from Egypt's first online cinema booking system to today's streaming intelligence tools.
